Field Trip #2: Raytheon BBN Technologies, December 15.

Date de publication : 2 déc. 2016 03:19:39

The Newton Girls Who Code club is going on a field trip!

Our second field trip of the year will be to Raytheon BBN Technologies in Cambridge on Thursday, December 15th from 4:00P-6:00P. BBN has been in Cambridge for over 65 years and was heavily involved in the creation of the Internet. Fun fact #1: BBN built the first person-to-person networked email ever, and selected the use of the @ sign in an email address. Fun fact number #2: David worked at BBN for 10 years, starting when he was 23 years old!

During our visit, BBN engineers will lead us in a coding activity followed by a panel discussion paths to careers in STEM. During/after the panel they will serve a light dinner. All Newton GWC students are invited to attend, both the Tuesday and Friday sections.

The visit will take place at the BBN Campus, 77 Fawcett St, Cambridge, MA 02138. There will be signs directing Coders to the Cafeteria for the event, and we will distribute a map as well (soon). Parents are responsible for getting coders to and from the venue. We encourage you to coordinate carpooling using our mailing list: parents2016@newtongwc.org. Be sure to wear your Girls Who Code T-shirt.

Our host at BBN is Bobby Simidchieva. In case something comes up on the day of the field trip, her phone number is 617-873-7185.

Please let us know whether you plan to attend the trip or not by filling out this survey: https://goo.gl/forms/5bzdOINCP1wvXzCx1 .
